IPAF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Training in the use of work equipment is required by most health and safety legislation and work at height regulations. Employers are obliged to train employees. The IPAF training programme for platform operators was developed by leading industry professionals. It is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878:2004 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operator Scissor lift IPAF training in progress(driver) training. More than 70,000 operators are trained each year through a worldwide network of over 300 training centres. Successful trainees receive a PAL Card (Powered Access Licence), a safety guide, a log book and a certificate.

IPAF itself does not provide training. Training is provided by approved training centres, mostly manufacturer and rental members of IPAF. Approved training centres set the course fees independently for training provided. They are regularly audited by IPAF. Class sizes are kept small. Courses generally last one to two days and are a mixture of theory and practice, with a written and a practical test. Course material is available in many languages and training centres receive regular updates.

Categories of MEWP equipment:

Static vertical training

This type of equipment

is generally light weightand allows a person

to evelate vertically but canot drive whilst at height.

This category includes the 'Powertower'

  Static Boom (1b)

Trailer mounted boom lift training

Lb static boom training

This type of equipment is very deverse in it's design and capabilities. The fundamentals of this group are however identical. It does not matter to this category how you get the boom into position, whether it be on a lorry, mounted on a trailer or with its own driveTracked boom lift trainingIPAF training category 1b van mounted boom liftcapabilities but once there you are unable to elevate unless you stabilise the equipment using the jacks, outriggers or stabilisers with spreader pads as per the manufacturers instructions. Clearly an assessment of the ground needs to be made prior to setting up and IPAF training helps significantly with your   understanding of how to go about this operation.

Mobile Vertical (3a)

IPAF training category 3a mobile vertical a scissor lift

This is clearly a classec scissor lift but this catecory also incorperates any equipment that does not have outreach where the load centre extends beyond the tip point and is capable of driving whilst at height.

Mobile Boom (3b) IPAF training category 3b mobile boom

In this category the equipment can be used to reach over obstacles and can be driven whilst elevated. These types of equipment can be available in a Bi Energy form to allow the most efficient use of resources whether outside or in.
